Everyone has the right to feel safe at work

SafetyNet Protect Plus – the small alarm with a big impact

When safety is paramount to your team, we know you have to reassure them that they’re safe when they’re carrying out their duties and the SafetyNet Protect plus alarm is a physical reminder to them that help is just a tap away.

SafetyNet Protect+ was developed for prison and secure home applications but is equally relevant in the protection of others working in potentially confrontational or hazardous roles, particularly lone workers.

So what does SafetyNet Protect Plus do?

  • Provides location updates via SafetyNet™ Mesh, a network of routers and beacons, with beacons located at key points in a defined area.
  • Provides continuous tracking data or to provide location data only when the alarm is activated, depending on the application.
  • Provides an accurate shock measurement for fall and no movement man‐down detection, which will raise an alert if the alarm button is pressed, a rip cord is pulled, or if it senses rapid movement or no movement at all.

Tracking of SafetyNet™ Protect+ units and alarm activation are managed centrally by SafetyNet™ Software. When a Protect+ alarm is activated the control room is alerted and all SafetyNet™ Protect+ devices on the system sound an alarm and receive messages with specific instructions, e.g. attend/don’t attend, including location information if required. The alarm will continue to sound until cancelled centrally in the control room.

SafetyNet™ Protect+ is designed to monitor people within a defined indoor area. The system can be used in any indoor situation but is especially useful in areas where achieving reliable GPS or Wi-Fi coverage is challenging.

PMR at Wind Europe 2023

We had the great honour of being one of the only Critical Communications companies invited to showcase our product at this year’s Wind Europe event in Copenhagen. Attended by over fifteen thousand industry key players, all with a vested interest in the future of renewable energy and pushing forward the innovations it needs to meet the demands for wind power.

What did PMR do?

We created a digital poster, presenting what we can do to ensure the safety of all those working on and off turbines.

Safety is still one of the primary considerations for wind farm operators. With the most favourable sites located in isolated and exposed environments, establishing reliable communications to facilitate the seamless interaction of many personnel is key to ensuring safety – no matter how far away from established communication networks they may be.

To meet the unique demands for reachability, response and robustness, critical communications solutions defined by digital land mobile radio (LMR) technologies like TETRA, P25, and DMR are making important contributions to keeping operations safe. However, a significant problem remained – once inside the steel column of the turbine the TETRA signal would be lost, therefore technicians would lose the ability to communicate.

One operator, with a 100km2 wind farm off the coast of Kent in the UK, wanted to ensure full, seamless radio coverage for all its personnel, especially the lone workers climbing inside the large steel towers of the turbines and technicians in the main machine room at the top of the tower. Our presentation discussed the challenges of the project in more depth and outlined the details of how a successful solution was developed and implemented.

Can you account for everyone you are responsible for, particularly in areas where GPS or Wi-Fi coverage is sketchy?

SafetyNet Asset Location is designed to track people or assets within a defined indoor area and it can be used for a range of applications to show existing location or to show movement between points.

How does it work?

Each person or asset equipment to be tracked carries a SafetyNet Asset device, a small battery operated radio transmitter.

SafetyNet Asset Location tracks the location of the SafetyNet Asset devices using SafetyNet Mesh – a network of discreet beacon readers and routers (BRRs) strategically positioned around the required area, which relays the information via wireless or a fixed network connection to SafetyNet Software.

SafetyNet Software receives location data for SafetyNet Mesh, displays the real-time location of all assets on the system and raises and escalates alerts as required.

Features include:

  • Geofencing, with the alarm raised if a person or asset moves from, or into a designated area
  • Can be programmed to escalate alerts as emails, texts or voice messages
  • Assets can be linked to specific individuals to prevent unauthorised use
